Elon Musk About Long-Term Success

Updated: Apr 15, 2020

Founder and CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and Neuralink, this guy surely knows something about productivity. Here are the highlights from his daily routine. After 6 hours of sleep, he gets up at 7 AM. He drinks coffee and goes through high-priority emails. Then he plans his day - urgent tasks first, the rest of the tasks in order of priority.

"Work like hell. I mean you just have to put in 80 to 100 hour weeks every week. This improves the odds of success.

He puts the tasks that bring visible results first.

“Focus on signal over noise. Don’t waste time on stuff that doesn’t actually make things better” - says Musk. He doesn’t do time-sucking low-value meetings to concentrate on his key strength - he builds products.

Focus on signal over noise

“I think a lot of people think I must spend a lot of time with media or on businessy things,” he says. “But actually almost all my time, like 80 percent of it, is spent on engineering and design. Engineering and design, so it’s developing next-generation product. That’s 80 percent of it.”

I don't spend my time pontificating about high-concept things; I spend my time solving engineering and manufacturing problems.

There is no doubt that Elon Musk works a lot, and most importantly, he is productive. However, he`s just a man who knows how to balance his life. He likes to hang out with friends and spend time with 5 children. As we know from Twitter, he goes camping with them every year and they spend most of the week together.

If something is important enough, even if the odds are against you, you should still do it

Productivity is not only about work tasks, but also about how to invest the time in meaningful things. And remember to have fun in the process and dream. Even Elon Musk reads books, and this helps him to be not only such an effective person, but also a visionary. Perhaps this is the formula for success - to work hard on your goals, but always listen to that starry-eyed child inside of you. What do you think about Elon Musk`s lifestyle?
